You all may know that we are really serious about our grass. Regenerative Agriculture is the future in order to heal our past. Guys, we can literally reverse climate change by grazing ruminant animals! How cool is that? What would you do to help turn back the tide of climate change? Would you eat some delicious grass fed lamb? Because, that might be a really big step actually! Turns out, I am not the only one who feels this way!! Our friend and fellow sheep farmer, Emily Chamelin feels the same way! We were chatting the other day about why there is such a huge disconnect with consumers and where their food comes from. We are frustrated seeing things like “Beyond Meat” touted as better for the environment. When you stand out in the middle of our field and listen to the birds sing, and the sheep munching on grass, the bugs humming….you can’t help but feels so close to nature.

You feel connected to the land and know that as the sheep munch, carbon is being cycled out of the atmosphere and back into the ground. I doubt the makers of soy based meat products or lab grown meat experience feeling that connection to nature in the large production buildings that most likely run on coal powered electricity and transport ingredients and products hundreds of miles in diesel tractor trailer trucks. Just musings of a humble farmer. Please don’t misunderstand me… I’m not trying to say there shouldn’t be food choices!! Food choice is INCREDIBLY important! Everyone should be able to have access to foods that are right for their families and there shouldn’t be shame or guilt associated with those choices. Let’s not try to change each other’s minds about what works for our own bodies and families. It just feels frustrating and backwards to be accused of INDUCING climate change with farting cows, rather than looking at the data that shows that the majority of emissions lies with huge industrial corporations that aren’t held to environmental standards.

So as Emily and I dug deeper into this conversation, we realized had an opportunity to combine our voices to make us both more likely to succeed. So we are announcing the start of the Maryland Lamb Co-op. A place that I hope people will come to for their lamb and know that it is being raised by people that truly care for our environment, that want to leave it better than we found it, and care that you are getting a quality product. And we want to take you along with us! So if you feel so compelled, the best way you can help us is to order lamb, I encourage you to try it, even if you’ve already tried lamb and did not enjoy it….give our lamb another try…it is different than anything else you’ve had before!!
